ROSELAND, N.J. - Westminster College's senior linebacker Alex Kernicky (Greensburg, PA / Greater Latrobe) received a preseason honor from USA Football News. Kernicky was named to the 2012 USA Football News Division III Preseason All-America third team.
The teams were selected by coaches, sports information directors, certified players' agents, pro scouts, national media reporters and the staff of USA Football News.
All candidates of the Class of 2013 with no remaining eligibility listed as preseason All-Americans or Regional All-Stars are candidates to participate in the 2013 USA Freedom Bowl, a four-day, three-night event that continues the tradition of the Snow Bowl and Cactus Bowl and last January's Hansen Bowl.
Kernicky started in all ten games last season with 66 tackles, third-best on the team. He was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Washington & Jefferson where he led the team with a career-best 15 tackles.
Westminster finished the 2011 season 5-5 overall, including a 4-4 mark in the PAC. The Titans open its 2012 season on Sept. 1 against Hiram at Harold Burry Stadium.
