PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Westminster College track and field teams competed at the Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday. CMU, Penn State-Behrend, and Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington and Jefferson also participated. The women finished first with 176 points, while the men placed second with 166 points.

For the men, Senior Ryan Bell (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) won the javelin throw with a 64.51 meter throw. Junior Mark Saylor (West Middlesex, PA / West Middlesex) won the pole vault with a 4.48 meter jump. Sophomore Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) won the triple jump with a leap of 13.54 meters. Thomas also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.53 meters.
In the discus throw, senior Les Tabor (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) and sophomore Jason Frawley (Franklin, PA / Franklin) placed third and fourth with marks of 38.53 meters and 35.48 meters, respectively.

The 100 meter relay team of senior Justin Jones (Erie, PA / Fort LeBoeuf), junior Bob Fazzolare (Polk, PA / Franklin), junior John Proano (Titusville, PA / Titusville), and freshman Trevor Sahagian (Rittman, OH / Rittman) won with a time of 45.49. Sophomore Aaron Sutton (Warren, OH / Howland) placed third in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:05.51. Sutton also finished second in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:12.17.

Junior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) won the 400 meter run with a time of 50.09. In the 100 meter dash, senior J.J. Faltot (Mercer, PA / Mercer) won the event with a time of 11.46. In the 200 meter dash, Faltot and Carswell placed second and third with time of 23.01 and 23.12, respectively. Freshman K.J. McCrea (Cabot, PA / Knoch) placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.34.

The men's 400 meter relay team also finished in first place. The team consisted of Carswell, Faltot, sophomore Zac Henry (North East, PA / North East), and senior Caleb Smathers (Punxsutawney, PA / Punxsutawney).

On the women's side, Senior Emily Dolsak (McDonald, OH / McDonald) won the discus with a throw of 44.38 meters, this broke her previous school record of 43.64 from last season. Dolsak also finished second in the shot put with a throw of 10.90 meters. Senior Alisha Slater (Wooster, OH / Norwayne) won the long jump with a 5.32 meter leap. Senior Bridget McCray (Centerville, PA / Titusville) placed second in the javelin throw with a mark of 35.25 meters. Senior Merissa Malcolm (Freeport, PA / Freeport) finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.13 meters.

The women's 100 meter relay team placed first with a time of 49.32. The team consisted of sophomore Kristen Basista (Mineral Ridge, OH / Mineral Ridge), Alisha Slater, senior Hayley Ebersbacher (Chesterland, OH / West Geauga), and senior Mallory Mack (Carnegie, PA / Chartiers Valley). Basista also placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.81. In the 400 meter hurdles, Basista placed second with a time of 1:07.11.

In the 400 meter run, sophomore Haley Gabor (New Kensington, PA / Ford City) won the event with a time of 58.15. Alisha Slater also won the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.03. In the 200 meter dash, Gabor, Slater, and Ebersbacher finished first (26.43), second (27.14), and third (27.66).

Westminster will compete again at home next Saturday at the Westminster Invitational.
