Men's Tennis: Titans Edge Saint Vincent in PAC Opener

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College men's tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak as it won, 5-4, at Saint Vincent in both team's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener on Monday.

The Titans improved to 3-4 overall, while the Bearcats dropped to 2-1 on the season.

Westminster won two doubles and three singles matches. Titan sophomore Troy Abbott (Seven Fields, PA / Seneca Valley) teamed up with junior Mike Matisi (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) for an 8-3 win at no. 1 doubles. Abbott also won no. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-7(2), 6-2.

Titan senior Ryan Carr (Cheektowaga, NY / Cheektowaga Central) and junior Mark Andino (Norwalk, CT / Norwalk) won a hard-fought match at no. 2 doubles, 8-6.

Also picking up singles wins for Westminster were Carr at no. 3 (6-2, 6-1) and sophomore Ethan McCarthy (New Castle, PA / Neshannock) at no. 5 (6-1, 6-1).

The Titans will next compete at Edinboro on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
