Softball: Titans Split Two Games in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Westminster College softball team split a pair of games in Florida on Thursday. The Titans (5-3) lost, 7-5, to Husson in game one and edged Suffolk, 6-5, in game two.

In game one, Westminster scored two runs both in the third and fourth innings, cutting Husson's lead to 5-4, but Husson added two more runs in the top of the seventh to place the game just out of reach. Titan junior pitcher Carly Leffakis (Pittsburgh, PA / North Catholic) got the loss and moved to 0-1 on the year.

In game two, Westminster was paced by a four-run first inning. The Titans added one more run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth. Suffolk scored two runs in the fifth and three in the seventh.

Titan sophomore pitcher Amber Forrest (Clear Spring, MD / Clear Spring) got the win and improved to 3-1 overall. Forrest pitched 6.0 innings and gave up two runs off eight hits. She struck out four batters and walked none. Westminster sophomore Brenna Guard (Davenport, IA / Davenport Central) tallied a game-high two RBI.

The Titans will finish their 10-game Florida Trip on Friday when they play Catholic at 1 p.m. and Mount St. Joseph at 3:00 p.m.
