FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Westminster College volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on Friday in day one of the Fredonia Invitational. The Titans swept Rochester Institute of Technology, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-13), in game one and lost, 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-20), to host Fredonia in the nightcap.
In the two matches combined, Titan seniors Megan Romocean (Ravenna, OH / Southeast) and Lexi Starheim (Hubbard, OH / Hubbard) led the offense with 18 and 14 kills, respectively. Senior Rebecca Riemer (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) and junior Kassie Freyermuth (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) added eight kills each. Sophomore Megan Prybyl (Mars, PA / North Catholic) added seven kills. Freshman Katie Peters (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) and senior Katie Palkovic (Camp Hill, PA / Trinity) led Westminster with 31 assists each. Romocean also had a team-high six service aces.
Westminster senior Claire Ferrando (North Jackson, OH / Western Reserve) led defensively with 26 digs, followed by senior Chrissy Volsko (Canfield, OH / Austintown Fitch) (17), Palkovic (12), and Prybyl (11). Riemer and Starheim added a team-high five blocks each, while Peters added four.
The Invitational continues Saturday when the Titans take on Hilbert at 11 a.m. and La Roche at 1 p.m.
