MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Westminster College volleyball team won its fifth-straight shutout after blanking Ohio Wesleyan and Allegheny in Allegheny's Tri-Match on Saturday. The Titans topped the Bishops, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-23) in game one and won, 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-15) against the Gators in the nightcap. Westminster improved to 12-2 overall for the season.
Against the Bishops in game one, senior Megan Romocean (Ravenna, OH / Southeast) led the Titan offense with 14 kills. Senior Lexi Starheim (Hubbard, OH / Hubbard) and juniors Julie Powell (Meadville, PA / Meadville) and Alaura Hanssen (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) followed with nine, eight, and seven kills, respectively. Senior Katie Palkovic (Camp Hill, PA / Trinity) orchestrated the offense with a team-high 40 assists. Powell led the defense with 10 digs. Romocean added one ace and a block.
In the nightcap, Romocean once again led offensively with 13 kills followed by Starheim (9), Powell (7), and senior Rebecca Riemer (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) (7). Palkovic had a team-high 34 assists, while Romocean added two aces. On defense, Starheim had a team-high four blocks (two solo, two assists), while Riemer added two solo blocks.
Westminster will host a Tri-Match on Tuesday inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The Titans will play Chatham at 4:30 p.m. and Geneva at 7:30 p.m.
