Baseball: Titans Blanked in PAC Twinbill Opener

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College baseball team was swept at Saint Vincent on Saturday in both team's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader opener. The Titans lost game one and game two by identical scores of 1-0. Westminster dropped to 7-7 overall, while the Bearcats improved to 5-6.

In game one, Saint Vincent had runners on first and third base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. A Titan wild pitch scored the game's lone run and gave the Bearcats the walk-off win.  

Westminster junior Ron Sullivan (Boardman, OH / Canfield) (1-3) got the loss after giving up only three hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. Sullivan struck out three batters and walked two. Senior Kyle Allen (New Wilmington, PA / West Middlesex) and sophomore Jared Heck (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) led the offense with two hits each.

In the nightcap, the Bearcats loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning before driving in the game's only run. Titan senior pitcher Liam Halferty (Pittsburgh, PA / Central Catholic) picked his first loss of the season and went to 2-1 overall. Halferty threw a complete game in six innings of work and gave up one run (unearned) off four hits. He struck out two batters and walked four.

Westminster is back in action next Friday when they travel to Thomas More for a PAC doubleheader. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
