Track & Field: Freshman Marissa Kalsey Qualifies for Nationals

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced earlier this week the participants in the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships. Freshman Marissa Kalsey (Waynesburg, PA / Waynesburg), a member of the Westminster College women's track & field teams, qualified in the pole vault. The Championships will be held March 8-9 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

For each women's individual event contested, including the pentathlon, the top-15 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. The top-8 finishers at Nationals earn All-American status.

Kalsey, the first ever Titan woman pole vaulter to compete at Nationals, led the women's team to a first-place finish at the 2013 Presidents' Athletic Conference Invitational as she placed first in the pole vault with a school-record mark of 3.74 meters. It was the second time Kalsey broke her own record of 3.55m that she set in December at the YSU Invitational. Kalsey's mark ranks ninth in the nation.

The pole vault competition starts on Friday at 11 a.m. central time. For more information on the Championships, go here.
