Men's Basketball: Titans Come Back to Win 67-58 over Mount Union in Day One of Buzz Ridl Classic

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team came back from a 12-point deficit and won 67-58 over visiting Mount Union in the first night of the 21st annual Buzz Ridl Classic Friday in both team's season openers. The Titans improved to 1-0 overall and the Purple Raiders dropped to 0-1.

Mount Union was in control and in the lead for the first 32 minutes of game, however Westminster orchestrated a 20-0 run with 8:12 minutes left in regulation to take a commanding 65-56 lead. Junior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) led the charge with 11 points during the streak.

Five Titans scored in double figures in the game, led by Thomas who scored 19 points (8-for-17). Senior Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) followed with 13 points. Sophomore Ben Donlow (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) and senior Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) scored 11 points each, while senior Reuben King (New Kensington, PA / Highlands) earned 10.

Donlow led Westminster on defense with 11 rebounds, while senior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) had 10.

For the game Westminster shot 42.4% (25-59), including 50% in the second half (17-34), while Mount Union shot 37.9% (22-58).

The Titans will finish out the tournament tomorrow when they host Muskingum at 4 p.m.
