Football: Mike Annarella Voted Capital One First Team Academic All-District

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College sophomore football player Mike Annarella (New Castle, PA / Union) was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Football Team released Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A 6-foot offensive lineman, Annarella earned first-team honors for NCAA Division III District 4. As a first-team selection, Annarella will be on the ballot for Academic All-America status which will be selected later this month.

Annarella, a public relations major with a 3.57 grade-point average, has been a key contributor to the Westminster's rushing game. The Titans currently rank third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) averaging 167.9 rushing yards a game and tops the conference with 4.8 yards a carry. Annarella has also helped paved the way for Titan junior running back Tyler Banks (Meadville, PA / Meadville) who is fourth in the conference averaging 79.6 yards rushing per game.

Westminster (3-5, 2-5 PAC) will travel to Geneva Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Titans' final game of the season.

To be nominated for the Academic All-District teams a student must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and have competed at his or her current institution for one year.
