Tuesday, June 12, 2012NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Under the guidance of veteran head coach Rob Klamut, both the Westminster College men's and women's swimming and diving teams won a combined eight events at the 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships for second-place finishes. Senior Caitlin Lehberger (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) guided the Titans to 17th place out of 54 schools at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Team's Most Valuable Women's Swimmer, Lehberger, capped off her unprecedented collegiate career with her ninth All-American laurels. At nationals, Lehberger earned three All-American honors paced by her second place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.86) and in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.57), both set school-records. The 2012 PAC Women's Swimming Most Valuable Performer, Lehberger also placed sixth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.26).
Since winning the PAC team title in 2007, the Titan men's team has finished in second place at the league meet for five straight years, including in 2012 with five event wins and 711 points. The Titan women's team has finished either second or third since it last won the PAC meet in 2007 including a second-place finish with three event wins and 665.5 points in 2012.
Out of the 19 Titans who met the All-PAC standards, 10 earned first-team honors (7 men, 3 women) and nine were named to the second-team (4 men, 5 women).
Senior and Team's Most Valuable Men's Swimmer Mike Barringer (Boardman, OH / Boardman) was honored on the first-team all four years at Westminster. Senior Mark Brooks (Youngstown, OH / Boardman), junior Dan Gutmann (Cranberry Twp., PA / Seneca Valley), and junior Alan Nedley (White, PA / Connellsville) earned first-team laurels for the third time in their swimming careers. Senior Kris Brooks (Cuyahoga Falls, OH / Cuyahoga Falls) earned first-team honors for the second time. Freshman Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township) and freshman Nicholas Smith (Indiana, PA / Indiana) both made first-team All-PAC as rookies.
Senior Sierra Beecher (Newville, PA / Big Spring) and Lehberger earned first-team honors for the fourth time in their careers. Sophomore Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg) also earned first-team honors; she earned second-team last year as a freshman.
Junior Will Stiglitz (Franklin, PA / Cranberry) earned second-team laurels for the third time at Westminster. Senior diver Dan Giles (Issaquah, WA / Issaquah) earned second-team honors for the second time in his career. Freshman Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman) and freshman Dave Starr (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum) made the team as first-years.
Senior Emily Kompare (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler) made second-team All-PAC for the fourth time in her Titan career. Sophomore Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs) earned second-team honors for the second consecutive season. Sophomore Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton), freshman Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny), and freshman Ashley Wyland (Pittsburgh, PA / Taylor Allderdice) all made the team for the first time.
