Baseball: Titans Drop Two in Last Day in Florida

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Westminster College baseball team lost two games in its doubleheader versus Penn. State-Behrend in the last day of its Florida Trip on Friday. The Titans lost, 6-0, in game one and lost, 5-1, in game two. Westminster dropped to 3-7 overall, while the Lions improved to 6-3.

The Lions only allowed two hits in game one. PS-Behrend scored three runs in the first inning, one in the third, and two in the fourth. Titan senior pitcher Scott Hanicak (Ellwood City, PA / Laurel) got the loss in a complete game effort and moved to 1-1 on the season. Hanicak gave up six runs (five earned) off 10 hits. Hanicak struck out six batters and walked none.

In the nightcap, Westminster was down 5-0 going into the bottom of the seventh. The Titans then scored their lone run off an RBI-single from junior Duncan Watt (Pickering, ON / Dunbarton). Titan junior pitcher John Jones (New Wilmington, PA / Ligonier Valley) got the loss and moved 0-2 on the season. Jones threw for 2.2 innings and gave up three runs (two earned) off five hits. Jones struck out two batters and walked the same.

The Titans will host Penn. State-Beaver on Monday at 4 p.m. for their home-opener.
