Women's Track and Field: Kalsey Named Mideast Region Field Athlete of the Year

Thursday, March 13, 2014

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season were announced this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Titan sophomore pole vaulter Marissa Kalsey (Waynesburg, PA / Waynesburg) was named the Mideast Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

Kalsey is the top-ranked Division III pole vaulter at 13-1½ (4.00m), and the only woman in DIII to have cleared 13 feet so far this season. She achieved that height at the SPIRE Midwest Challenge. She will contest her signature event at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships this Friday.

Each of the regions, which are the same as those used during the Division III cross country season, honored both genders' top track athletes and field athletes and the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches. Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches.

Many of the honored athletes and coaches will be in competition at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships set for this weekend, March 14-15, in Lincoln, Neb. The meet can be streamed online live at, and more information can be found at the USTFCCCA's National Championships Central page.
