NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Six members of the Westminster College men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned the 2013-14 Coach Gene Nicholson Swimmer/Scholar Recognition Award.
Three members of the men's team who were honored were senior Ryan Taylor (Fairview, PA / Fairview) and juniors Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman) and Nicholas Smith (Indiana, PA / Indiana). This was the first year for all three student-athletes to earn this award.
Three members of the women's team who were honored were seniors Christiana Crace (Scottdale, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) and Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs) and junior Rebecca Mobley (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland). This was the second-straight year for Whisel and the first year for Crace and Mobley to earn this award.
The Coach Gene Nicholson Swimmer/Scholar Recognition Award is given to Westminster junior and senior swimmers and divers with at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average. The award was first established in 2007 by a group of alumni swimming and diving team members and friends to honor former head coach Gene Nicholson (1972-85) and the values he exemplified.
Westminster will compete at Saint Vincent on Saturday at 1 p.m.
