Men's Soccer: Titans Drop, 2-1, in Final Day of Purple and Gold Classic

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Westminster College men's soccer team lost, 2-1, to Defiance on the final day of the Purple and Gold Classic hosted by Defiance College on Sunday. The Titans moved to 1-1 overall on the year, while the Yellow Jackets stayed perfect at 2-0.

Titan sophomore Ethan McCarthy (New Castle, PA / Neshannock) gave Westminster a 1-0 lead in the first half after teammate Austin Ewers (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington Area) found him with 35:49 on the clock.

Defiance responded in the second half with two goals in the 50th-minute frame (50:28, 57:03).

Both teams recorded identical shots (11 total, 5 on goal).

Westminster junior goalie Michael Girata (Monaca, PA / Central Vally) got the start and had two saves in a complete-game effort.

The Titans are back on the field Wednesday when they host D'Youville in their home opener at 7:30 p.m.
