BASEBALL (14-7, 5-0 PAC)

The Westminster College baseball team stayed flawless in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) on Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Grove City Wolverines. The Titans won convincingly in game one, 8-2, after an impressive performance by sophomore pitcher Ron Sullivan (Boardman, OH / Canfield) (2-0) who gave up two runs off five hits in a complete game of work. In the nightcap, with the help of junior pitcher Scott Hanicak (Ellwood City, PA / Laurel) (2-0), the Titans came back down 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning and won 7-4 for their fifth-straight victory.  Hanicak came in for relief and pitched 4.1 scoreless innings and only gave up three hits. He walked one batter and fanned a career-high six.

The Westminster College baseball team split a doubleheader with Case Western Reserve. The Titans lost 4-1 in game one, but regrouped in the nightcap to win 2-0. In the game two win, senior pitcher Vince Iosue (Euclid, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) earned the win as he pitched four innings of no-hit baseball. Westminster first got on the scoreboard in the first inning after a run from senior Steve Perrotta (New Castle, PA / New Castle).

The Lady Titans won all six games they played this past week with sweeps of Pitt-Bradford, Ursuline, and PAC rival Thomas More. Junior pitcher Chelsea Brown (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) earned four wins this past week from three starts and one in relief. Junior Layne Carpenter (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta) was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference hitter of the week as she batted .550 (11-20). This included her first ever home run and two game winning hits.

MEN'S TENNIS (3-8, 3-1 PAC)

The Titans are now on a two match winning streak after convincing wins over two PAC rivals Bethany and W&J. In first singles, senior Drew Trifelos (Newark, OH / Granville Christian Academy) won 6-1, 6-3. Junior Sean Black (Aurora, OH / Aurora) won in second singles 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Mike Matisi (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) won in third singles 6-3, 6-1. Against W&J, at first singles, Senior Drew Trifelos won 6-0, 6-1. Junior Brad Thomas (Warren, OH / Champion) won at third singles 6-4, 6-1. At fourth singles, freshman Mike Matisi won 6-2, 6-2.

03/30/2012 at Wooster Invitational, Men: 1st/162 Points, Women: 2nd/139.50 Points

Junior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) made history in the 400 meter dash, breaking a 50-year old school record with a first-place time of 49.51. Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Field Athlete of the Week sophomore Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) also etched his name in the record books as he broke a 38-year old school record in the triple jump with a first-place leap of 14.06 meters (46'1.50"). For the women, sophomore Haley Gabor (New Kensington, PA / Ford City) finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.54 and in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.95. Gabor was also second in the pole vault with a 9'6.25" mark. Carswell was also named the PAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Senior Nate Silvis (St. Petersburg, PA / Allegheny Clarion Valley) was the medalist as he won in a one-hole playoff shooting a 78 for the round. Westminster won its first meet since last season as they shot a team score of 324. Silvis was also named the PAC Men's Golfer of the Week for his performance.
