Westminster Swimming and Diving Wins in Season Finale

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept the University of Mount Union on Saturday. The women won 145-117, while the men won 142-116. The Titans won 18 of 28 events (10 for the women and eight for the men).

The Westminster men improved to 7-4 overall and the Mount Union men go to 5-6. The Westminster women moved to 7-5 and the Mount Union women fell to 8-3 overall.

Sophomore Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg) was the only Titan to score three wins on the day as she was able to touch first in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:17.17, the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.38, and in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.47.

Scoring multiple wins for the women were senior Caitlin Lehberger (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) in the 100 (1:06.68) and 200 (2:25.88) yard breaststroke and sophomore Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton) in the 100 (1:03.02) and 200 (2:15.58) yard backstroke.

Senior Mike Barringer (Boardman, OH / Boardman) in the 100 (49.06) and 200 (1:47.64) yard freestyle and junior Alan Nedley (White, PA / Connellsville) in the 100 (52.72) and 200 (2:00.81) yard butterfly earned multiple wins for the men.

Other Titans winning individual events for the women were senior Sierra Beecher (Newville, PA / Big Spring) in the 200 yard freestyle (1:58.81) and freshman Veronica Corcoran (Dubois, PA / DuBois) in the 500 yard freestyle (5:29.49).

Winning for the men were freshman Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township) in the 100 yard backstroke (55.15), junior Justin Gracey (Dayton, OH / Northmont) in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:23.34) and senior Kris Brooks (Cuyahoga Falls, OH / Cuyahoga Falls) in the 500 yard freestyle (5:08.39).

In relays for the women, the team of Erdley, Lehberger, Beecher, and freshman Ashley Wyland (Pittsburgh, PA / Taylor Allderdice) won the 400 yard freestyle with a time of 4:06.09.

For the men in the relays, the team of senior Mark Brooks (Youngstown, OH / Boardman), junior Dan Gutmann (Cranberry Twp., PA / Seneca Valley), Nedley, and Kris Brooks won the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:40.03. 

The Titans will conclude their season at the PAC Championships in the Grove City College Natatorium. The championships begin Wednesday, February 15th and conclude Saturday, February 18th.
