Internship Opportunities

Finding a good internship is essential for anyone who is considering graduate school. Internships help you to understand what professional research involves, help you to make good career choices, give you essential experience for your resume and open doors to opportunities (it is not unusual for students who have done internships to be offered places in graduate programs in the same institute). It is very hard to get a good feel for what it is really like in a research lab from your undergraduate classes. Many students change their mind about their field of interest after doing an internship. ResPAC advises students to do at least one internship before they graduate or preferably two, in different fields. There are great internship programs available to undergraduates all over the country, many of which offer great stipends and accomodation. Think oustide the box - aim to do an internship in another state or even another country, in a field that you haven't thought of working in. You may be surprised how much an internship can change your life.

ResPAC members at Westminster College have done a wide variety of internships, some examples of which are listed below. Keep an eye on this space for links to internship programs and opportunities, or ask one of your ResPAC representatives to help you find a good internship experience.

Pittsburgh Zoo, St Jude's University Summer Research Program, Children's Hospital/University of Pittsburgh Medical Research Internship Program, Sea World Florida, University of Pittsburgh Summer Undergraduate Research Program, National Aquarium Baltimore, Big Cat Rehabilitation Center Cape Town South Africa, University of Colorado Summer Research, Western PA Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, National Aviary Pittsburgh....
