Sociology

Requirements for the Social Policy Concentration

The social policy concentration helps to prepare students for careers in helping professions and public service. The course work encourages students to consider the “why?” and “how?” of social programs in the U.S. and other countries and promotes their critical evaluation.

SOC 204 Introduction to Social Work
SOC 305 Sociology of Organizations
SOC 350 Social Theory
SOC 590-594 Field Experience/Internship (must be in the area of social policy)
SOC 601 Sociology Capstone I
SOC 602 Sociology Capstone II
ACC 201 Principles of Accounting I
PS 241 Public Policy
SSC 251 Research Methods for Social Science
SSC 252 Data Analysis for Social Science

And two of the following courses:

SOC 210 Gerontology
SOC 214 Social Class in America
SOC 327 Medical Sociology
CJS 201 Juvenile Delinquency and Justice
