Westminster College students and faculty were given a chance to express their concerns regarding proposed changes to how graduate students may pay taxes. The version of the tax bill that was recently passed by the House of Representatives would significantly increase the tax burden on many graduate students. RESPAC, Westminster College's professional advisory committee for students interested in research and graduate school, organized a letter writing campaign for students and faculty members last week. The committee plans to send the letters to each participants’ respective hometown representatives.

Westminster Graduate School Assistant Director Dr. Eric Perry was a featured guest on the Oct. 31 episode of the “The Faculty Meeting” podcast. Perry, who also serves as the Counselor Education Program Coordinator, offered ideas on how college faculty members can best make use of social media in the classroom and in their professional lives.

Dr. Charlene Klassen Endrizzi, professor of literacy education at Westminster College, authored a chapter entitled “Photos as Bridges into Hidden Literacy Lives” published in Reclaiming Early Childhood Literacies: Narratives of Hope, Power, and Vision edited by Rick Meyer and Kathy Whitmore.

Well over 400 people gathered at Westminster College’s Professional Networking Symposium on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Alumni and friends of the college, across disciplines, were invited to share professional advice and network with current Westminster students. In panels led by alumni and friends of the college, members of the Westminster community engaged in various breakout sessions and other networking opportunities.

The Graduate School at Westminster College announces the start the new Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program (CMHC) starting in Fall 2017. There will be an information session on April 5 at 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Berlin Lounge located in the McKelvey Campus Center.

In February 2017, nineteen Westminster College students conducted the 8th annual African American Read In (AARI) at Farrell Elementary School in Farrell, PA. Thirteen Early Childhood Education majors in Dr. Charlene Klassen Endrizzi’s literacy course (ECE 341) shared African American children’s literature with Kindergarten through fourth grade classes. Six Black Student Union students working with Jeannette Hubbard, Director of Diveristy Services at Westminster College, met with fifth and sixth grade classes to discuss career goals and attending college.
