Sociology majors engage in significant research through the two semester Capstone courses taken spring of the junior year and fall of the senior year. Students conduct a literature review on their topic, create a research design and collect and analyze their data. Individual projects share a common sociological theme, like inequality, social capital or McDonaldization, but also present unique topical, theoretical and methodological focuses. The final projects are displaed in poster presentations to which the campus and larger community are invited. The projects are impressive submissions to future employers or graduate programs as a demostration of many higher-order Sociological skills.
Other Sociology majors who qualify do significant research through the all-College Honors Program.
