Piano Audition Requirements

Bachelor of Music (B.M.) Performance

Audition must be performed from memory. A diagnostic music theory exam and aural skills evaluation is also administered at the audition.
  • One piece from the Baroque period: Prelude and Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach or equivalent.
  • One movement of a Classical Sonata.
  • One Piece chosen from the Romantic, Impressionistic, or 20th Century period.
  • Scales, arpeggios.
  • Sight reading.

Bachelor of Music (B.M.) Music Education

It is highly recommended to perform all or some portion of the audition from memory. A diagnostic music theory exam and aural skills evaluation is also administered at the audition.
  • One piece from the Baroque period: Two or Three-Part Inventions by J.S. Bach or equivalent.
  • One movement from a Classical Sonatina or Sonata.
  • One piece of your choice.
  • Scales, arpeggios.
  • Sight reading.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

It is highly recommended to perform all or some portion of the audition from memory. A diagnostic music theory exam and aural skills evaluation is also administered at the audition.
  • One piece from the Baroque period: Two or Three-Part Inventions by J.S. Bach or equivalent.
  • One movement from a Classical Sonatina or Sonata.
