Kudos to 15 mathematics and computer science student athletes who successfully juggled rigid academic schedules and the demands of participating in one or more varsity sports during the 2011-2012 academic year.
Emily Dolsak '12, a member of the Westminster College women's track and field team, earned ninth-place in the discus at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Claremont McKenna College on May 24. Dolsak's throw of 43.72m was one centimeter off from earning All-American. Dolsak, the four-time PAC champion, was ranked 11th in the country before the event and now stands ninth-best.
Dolsak was also honored as the recipient of the following two awards at the Ninth Annual WESPY Awards (Westminster Exceptional Sports Performances of the Year) held on Thursday, May 3, at the Orr Auditorium: Marjorie A. Walker Award, which is given annually to honor and acknowledge the female athlete who best exemplifies the qualities of fairness, sportsmanship, leadership, determination and competitiveness; and the Women's Exceptional Two-Sport Student-Athlete Award. This marked the fourth straight year that Dolsak received this award.
Coty Hainsey, a member of the men's soccer team, was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Honorable Mention team. Hainsey was also voted to the 2011 All-PAC Men's Soccer Teams as an alternate to the second team.
Sophomore Jenna Huston earned 2011-2012 All-PAC Second Team honors by placing in the top-10 for Westminster. This marked Huston's first All-PAC honor of her career.
In addition, the following mathematics and computer science student athletes were named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Academic Honor Roll for the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters. The PAC Academic Honor Roll honors student-athletes on all varsity sports teams who have earned a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale during their semester of competition.
