Eleven Mathematics and Computer Science Students Presented Research Results at URAC

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Eleven mathematics and computer science majors recently presented their 2011-2012 undergraduate research results at the Undergraduate Research and Arts Celebration (URAC), hosted by Westminster College's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, held on April 25, 2012.

This showcase for student creative and research efforts featured the work of more than 200 Westminster students, who presented posters, oral presentations, documentaries, art projects, and performances.  "An important goal of Westminster College is to create a culture in which intellectual activities such as research and creativity are valued," said Dr. Terri Lenox, Westminster associate professor of computer science, Mathematics and Computer Science Department chair, and coordinator of the event.  "The Undergraduate Research and Arts Celebration allows students to showcase their work and allows the community to celebrate their work."

Posters were on display in the Witherspoon Rooms of McKelvey in three sessions: 9-10 a.m., 11 a.m.-noon, and 1-2 p.m.  Presentations and performances were scheduled from 9:25-11:20 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m. in Hoyt Science Resources Center, McKelvey, Old Main, and Thompson-Clark Hall.

The day-long celebration also included the annual Honors Convocation at 3:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.  Richard Ligo, a senior mathematics major and president of Pi Sigma Pi, led the tapping ceremony for induction of new members into the honor society.
