NCTM Regional Conference and Exposition

Friday, November 11, 2011

Dr. David Offner, assistant professor of mathematics, and Westminster students Christina Erceg, Coty Hainsey, and Richard Ligo attended the NCTM Regional Conference and Exposition in Atlantic City, NJ on October 19-21, 2011.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is the premiere national organization for mathematics teachers.  More than 3,100 mathematics educators gathered in Atlantic City to network and discuss the latest topics in mathematics education.

The students were exposed to a wide range of information about the profession, and met teachers and other educators who will be their future colleagues. They attended sessions on teaching particular topics in subjects from algebra, geometry, precalculus, and calculus, and using technology and manipulatives in the classroom.  Other sessions focused on the new Common Core standards for mathematics education being adopted nation-wide.  They also attended a session specially designed for people entering the profession and met with pre service teachers from other schools throughout the east coast.
