Each year the Modern Language department awards two scholarships to students who are studying language at Westminster College. The Ligo Scholarship is awarded annually to French majors who demonstrate excellence through their studies of French, while the Clemens Scholarship is awarded annually to students who excel in language study at Westminster.
Language in Motion
Language in Motion at Westminster offers advanced language students the opportunity to aid local school teachers and gain classroom experience while doing so. Advanced language students are able to create culture and language activities and present them in local schools. Interested students are invited to attend either the Mesa Españ ola (Spanish Table) or the Table Française each week during the semester. These meetings provide students an opporunity to practice their langauge skills with other students and Modern Language faculty.
Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish honorary society, is advised by Dr. Camila Bari de Lopez.
Pi Delta Phi, the French honorary society, is advised by Dr. Ann Murphy.
Jacob Erhardt International Film Series
The Jacob Erhardt International Film Series gives students the opportunity to watch foreign movies on campus. Several movies are shown each school year. English professor Dr. Deborah Mitchell coordinates the series.
The Learning Center offers tutoring and assistance for French and Spanish language courses. The Learning Center is located in Thompson Clark 211, but you can also contact them at ext. 6700.
