The Honors Program currently in existence at Westminster College has been in place since the early 1970s. While adjustments have been made to the program in the ensuing years, no adjustments have been made to bring the program into alignment with the Westminster Plan Curriculum, to meet faculty desires for elevating the intellectual and academic climate of the campus, to meet faculty aspirations for establishing a Phi Beta Kappa Chapter, or to accommodate the shift to a six-course teaching load. With the College’s Mission Statement
mandating the maximum possible development of each person's capabilities, CDC and ASC applied that philosophy to the design of an All-College Honors Program that would:
- be in alignment with the Westminster Plan Curriculum,
- elevate the intellectual climate on campus,
- begin to meet requirements for establishing a Phi Beta Kappa Chapter, and
- allow for the financial and curricular impact of a six-course teaching load.
