Research Grants

Definition of Grants

Research projects and creative activities may be supported through Research Grants. Projects must be conducted under the mentorship of Westminster College faculty. Award recipients are required to participate in the Undergraduate Research & Arts Celebration in the year of their grant.

Choice of Funding Streams

Stream A:  Students may apply for one Travel Grant and one Research Grant in the amount of up to $120 each per                              academic year.

Stream B:  Students may apply for one Travel Grant or one Research Grant in the amount of up to $180 per academic year.

In order to apply for research support, the student must have a research proposal completed and require expenditures not covered by the department in which the research is being conducted. The student must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at Westminster College during the time of the grant and in good academic standing. Students who are on academic or disciplinary probation or on a leave of absence or suspension are ineligible for awards. Group Awards: Two or more students may apply for a research grant as a group.

The maximum allocation for any Research Grant is $120/$180 (refer to "Choice of Funding Streams" above). Funding of research/creative activity projects may include the following: supplies, equipment, travel to libraries/data sources, expenses of data collection, etc. College policy will be followed, i.e., itemized receipts must be submitted for all expenses, etc. These funds may not be used for stipends or compensation of any type. Any equipment or supplies purchased for the project remain the property of the College.  Students will NOT be given cash advances.
