Westminster College welcomed the Class of 2014 on Friday, August 27, at 1:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. Dr. Jesse T. Mann, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, presided. Faculty and Administration processed in academic regalia, and the President of the College, Dr. Richard Dorman, welcomed students and parents. Dr. John P. Bonomo, associate professor of computer science, provided the keynote address entitled "Abuse the Faculty . ” Other participants included Rev. James Mohr, chaplain, and Leigha M. Krivacek, president of the student government association. A reception on the McKelvey patio followed the ceremony.
The 2010-2011 Henderson Lecture Award was granted to Dr.David Twining, professor of history, and was presented on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the Witherspoon Maple Room of the McKelvey Campus Center. Dr. Twining's lecture focused on "The Lost Generation of the 1960s." Dr. Twining has been with Westminster College since 1990. He earned an undergraduate degree from the College of Wooster, master's from the University of Virginia, and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
The Henderson Lectureship was founded by Dr. Joseph R. Henderson and his wife, Elizabeth. Joseph Henderson is professor emeritus of education at Westminster, having served as Chair of the Department of Education and Director of the Graduate Program.
Spring Honors Convocation
The Spring Honors Convocation will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. Students being recognized include those involved/inducted into Pi Sigma Pi honorary, and the Honors Program, as well as students who have been awarded scholarships, prizes, awards, and those who made the Dean's List for the Fall Semester 2010. Academic Department Chairs will present awards to their majors. Arrangements for the ceremony are made by the Office of Academic Affairs.
