On Saturday, May 19th, Westminster College celebrated the Class of 2012 with a Baccalaureate service followed by its 158th annual Commencement exercises. Nearly 300 students earned diplomas.
Baccalaureate was held in Orr Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Scott Black Johnston, senior pastor of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, sharing "Ignition."
Commencement began at 2:30 p.m. with the Opening Declaration by Mr. John T. Weisel, chair of the Westminster Board of Trustees and 1979 Westminster graduate and an invocation by Rev. James Mohr II, college chaplain. Dr. Richard H. Dorman, Westminster College President, offered greetings and led the rededication of Weisel Senior Terrace. The commencement ceremony included the conferring of an honorary degree, doctor of public service, honoris causa, on Dr. Kim Dunbar, a 1980 Westminster graduate one of America's premiere chemists.
Dr. Sandra Webster, professor of psychology, received the Distinguished Faculty Award.
Emerita status was awarded to Dr. Phyllis Kitzerow, who joined the Westminster College faculty in 1978, and Molly Spinney, who joined the faculty in 1975.
Senior class speaker, Miltiadis Constantine, a public relations and political science major from Poland, Ohio, spoke on "The Armor of the Westminster Titan."
