NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 90-74, to Lynchburg on Saturday in the final day of the 22nd Annual Buzz Ridl Classic. The Titans dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the Hornets improved to 1-1.
Lynchburg was in front for the majority of the first half and led by as much as nine points (33-24), when Lyndon White found Manny Hernandez for a three-pointer with 7:18 remaining before halftime. The Hornets led 47-42 at intermission after White found Hernandez for another three-point field goal at the buzzer.
Lynchburg remained in the lead for the rest of the game and led by as much as 18 points (90-72) when Hernandez connected on his game-high fifth three-pointer with 43 seconds on the clock.
For the game, sophomore Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led the Titans with a game- and career-high 22 points (6-13), including a team-high three three-pointers, and added five rebounds. Sophomore Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) led on the glass with a game-high nine boards and scored 12 points. Titan senior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) scored 13 points and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Freshman Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) added seven points, while junior Mike Matisi (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) and freshman Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) each had five.
For the game, Lynchburg outshot Westminster 53.4% (31-58) to 41.3% (26-63). The Hornets also held a 42-31 rebound edge.
Westminster will host Pitt-Bradford next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Also on Saturday, in the first game of the day, Catholic defeated Thiel, 83-73.
