PITTSBURGH (AP) - One worker has been injured and another gone missing after a morning explosion and fire at a natural gas well in southwestern Pennsylvania, near the West Virginia border.
Chevron says the fire occurred at the Lanco 7H well in Dunkard Township, about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh.
Department of Environmental Protection spokesman John Poister says the well is located in a rural area and a DEP team at the site found no signs of threats to public health. He says the fire is burning off volatile compounds.
Poister says the agency now suspects the explosion and fire occurred on the surface of the well and suspects the fire wasn't caused by an explosion in the well itself, what is known as a blowout.
