State Senator Bob Robbins won't seek re-election

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - After six terms representing parts of Lawrence, Mercer, Butler and Crawford counties,  State Senator Bob Robbins ays he won't seek re-election next year.

He is the fourth Republican to announce plans to leave the chamber.

"It has truly been an honor and pleasure to represent the great people of our area as a member of the House and Senate," Robbins said.  "While the decision to retire has been a difficult one, I now look forward to spending more time with my family and friends as I move into the next phase of my life."

His term ends Nov. 30, 2014.

The 69-year-old Robbins, from the Greenville area of Mercer County, is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a decorated combat veteran of two tours of duty in Vietnam.

He served in the state House of Representatives from 1983 to 1990 before being elected to the Senate. He occupies the 50th District seat, which includes Crawford and Mercer counties and parts of Butler and Lawrence counties.
