PITTSBURGH-- Doctors at UPMC say they have seen a spike in cases involving the respiratory Enterovirus D68.  They say the number of children who suffer from other respiratory probelms now infected by the virus has jumped-- crowding the emergency rooms and increasing hospital admissions.

Doctors say state health department officials as well as the CDC has confirmed western Pennsylvania cases-- but they're not testing every case.  They say because there's not treatment or vaccine for the virus, so testing each case isn't cost effective.  They know it's here and can only treat it.  Children and teens who have breathing problems end up hospitalized and on oxygen

People suffering from D68 report it feels like getting hit with a really bad cold.  The symptoms include fever, body aches, coughing, sneezing and sometimes a rash. Most cases resolve themselves in a week, but for some kids, it can cause difficulty breathing- especially in children with asthma.
