Thursday, November 14, 2013NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Veteran head coach Rob Klamut registered his 400th and 401st win of his career as the Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson at home on Wednesday. The Titan women won 165-124, while the Titan men won 175-106. Both Westminster teams improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the PAC, while the W&J women fell 4-1 (0-1 PAC) and the W&J men dropped to 2-2 (0-1 PAC).
Both teams won 10 events each, not including two women events and one men event where the Titans used exhibition swimmers.
Titan sophomore Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) led the women's team in individual wins and was also part of a winning relay team. Reott won the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.11), the 200 yard backstroke (2:13.85), and was also part of the 200 yard medley relay team that won with a time of 1:53.02. Completing the quartet were freshman Samantha Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional), junior Rebecca Mobley (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland), and senior Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs).
Tower, Mobley, and Whisel also picked up a win in their respective events. Tower won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.67), Mobley won the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.91), and Whisel won the 50 yard freestyle (25.79).
Junior Ashley Wyland (Pittsburgh, PA / Taylor Allderdice) earned two wins as she won the 200 yard freestyle (2:04.99) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:32.01).
Rounding out the winners for the women's team were PAC Swimmer/Diver of the Week freshman Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) who won the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:17.19) and senior Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg) who won the 200 yard butterfly (2:18.41).
On the men's side, junior Nicholas Smith (Indiana, PA / Indiana) paced Westminster with three individual wins. Smith won the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:22.98), the 200 yard butterfly (2:01.06), and the 100 yard butterfly (55.44).
Sophomore Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) earned two first-place finishes and was also part of a winning relay team. Baurle won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:00.14), the 200 yard breaststroke (2:13.17), and was the second leg of the 200 yard medley relay team that won with a 1:40.45 finish. Completing the foursome were sophomores Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle), Max Hague (Canton, OH / Glenoak) and junior Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township). Pletz also won the 200 yard freestyle (1:48.90).
Junior Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman) won two events as he placed first in the 100 yard backstroke (54.16) and the 200 yard backstroke (1:59.00). Rounding out the winners for the men was sophomore Jimmy Newman (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) who won the 500 yard freestyle (5:01.58).
Westminster will travel to Wooster on Saturday with a starting time of 1 p.m.
