Gearing up for SPRING BREAK 2014 & Habitat for Humanity (VIDEO)

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-- All the snow, ice and cold temperatures have students at Westminster yearning for spring break and a chance to head south.  However, not all of them will head to the beach for sunshine and parties.  Nearly four dozen from Westminster College will head to parts of Tennessee and South Carolina reporting for duty with Habitat for Humanity projects.

One team will travel to Marysville, TN.  They other will journey to Charleston, SC.  It's a chance to have a Spring Break With a Purpose.  It's part of a 30-year old Westminster tradition providing students with a chance to visit new places while serving as ambassadors of our local community.  The goal of the Spring Break With a Purpose project is to work with Habitat groups to build and maintain homes for deserving families.   Faculty, staff, students and even campus administrators have participated in the trips over the years.  This year's crews will hit the road on March 8.

In the past, broadcast communiciation students participating in the trips showcased the efforts in a documentary. Check out one of the segements where Joshua Dunn and volunteers spent the day salvaging a gym floor for a Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  The salvage project recycled flooring that was sold at the ReStore in Raleigh, NC, making money for other Habitat projects.

This year the team hopes to create a music video promoting the good works of the Westminster Habitat chapter to share on social media.  Stay tuned to see what they create.
