Men's Basketball: Titans Fall in Physical Game at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 72-57, at Waynesburg on Saturday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

The first half included five ties with the fifth one coming with 2:15 remaining with a score of 32-32. Waynesburg (13-11, 8-7 PAC) responded with an 8-0 run to take a 40-32 lead with 26 seconds to go. A Titan three-pointer from junior Nate Herrmann (Avon, CT / Seneca Valley) cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 40-35, which remained the halftime score.

In the second half, Waynesburg took its first double-digit lead, 45-35, with 16:26 on the clock. Westminster (3-20, 2-12 PAC) orchestrated a 14-8 run to cut the Yellow Jacket's lead to 53-49 with 10:47 left. The Titans, however, would not get any closer as Waynesburg outscored Westminster 19-8 in the remaining minutes.

For the game, Waynesburg out-shot Westminster 39.4% (26-66) to 35.7% (20-56) and out-rebounded the Titans 41-38.

Senior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) and freshman Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) led the Titans in scoring with 20 and 12 points, respectively. Thomas' points were a game-high. Westminster sophomore Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) led on the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds. Herrmann added a career-high six rebounds.

Jacob Fleegle led the Yellow Jackets with team-highs of 13 points and seven rebounds.

Westminster will play two more games (both at home) to finish out the regular season. The Titans will host Grove City on Wednesday at 8 p.m. and Geneva next Saturday at 4 p.m.
