Thursday, January 16, 2014NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 75-55, to Thomas More at home Wednesday night.
Westminster (2-12, 1-4 PAC) had a 5-0 lead in the beginning of the first half, however Thomas More (6-9, 5-1 PAC) responded with a 13-2 run to take a 13-7 lead with 11:35 on the clock. The Titans battled back and cut the Saints' lead to 19-18 after freshman Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) found classmate Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) for a three-pointer with eight minutes left in the half. Thomas More remained in front and held a 36-26 lead at halftime.
Thomas More maintained its double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
The Saints out-shot the Titans 48.2% (27-56) to 38.2% (21-55) and out-rebounded Westminster 39-29.
Three Titans scored in double-figures, led by sophomore Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) with 16 points. Sophomore Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) and Getsy tallied 15 and 13 points, respectively. Wallander and Pozsgai led Westminster with six rebounds each.
For the Saints, Drew Mumford scored a game-high 23 points, while Chris Richard grabbed down a game-high eight rebounds.
Westminster will be back on the court on Saturday when it travels to Geneva. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
