Westminster to host District 5 Honors Chorus

NEW WILMINGTON, PA – Westminster College will host the 2018 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 5 High School Honors Chorus concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in Orr Auditorium

Ninety-five students from 25 area schools will perform several numbers including “Laudate Jehovum, Omnes Gentes,” “They Are at Rest,” “Nelly Bly” and more. 

Guest conductor Dr. Christopher Kiver is a professor and director of choral activities at Pennsylvania State University where he directs the Concert Choir and Men’s Glee Club. He is founder and director of The Orpheus Singers, guest conductor of the Pennsylvania Center Orchestra and director of music at the University Baptist and Brethren Church in State College, Pa. A native of England, he is a graduate of the University of London, Florida State University and the University of Michigan.

Accompanying the choir is Bryan Helsel, director of choirs and music technology at Butler Area Senior High School. Active in the arts in Western Pennsylvania, Helsel plays piano in the Butler Symphony, organ and keyboards at various churches, and trumpet in the Butler Brass Quintet and Musicians’ Concert Band. He earned his undergraduate from Westminster College, his master’s from Duquesne University and is currently pursuing his doctorate at Kent State University.

The event is open to the public. Tickets may be purchased at the door: $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
