Northwest Passage Trumpet Trio to perform recital at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, PA – The Northwest Passage Trumpet Trio will perform a free recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Wallace Memorial Chapel on Westminster College’s campus.

The trio will perform works by David Gillingham, James Stephenson, George Gershwin and others.

The Northwest Passage Trumpet Trio consists of Dr. Timothy Winfield, assistant professor of music at Westminster College, Dr. Jennifer Dearden, associate professor of music at Allegheny College, and Andrew Erb, director of bands and Grove City College. The recital will also feature Paula Kubik on piano and organ.

As a performer, Winfield, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2014, is principal trumpet with the Butler Symphony Orchestra and has held positions with the Billings (Montana) Symphony Orchestra and the Boulder (Colorado) Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra and the Canton, South Florida, Westmoreland, Johnstown, Steamboat Springs, Corona, and Aspen orchestras.

Dearden performs with the French Creek Brass Quintet and maintains an active performing schedule in the northwestern Pennsylvania area as a soloist. She is a former member of the River City Brass Band and chairs the International Trumpet Guild’s annual scholarship competition.

Erb is the principal trumpet chair with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, plays trumpet and keyboard in the horn band 2nd Avenue Project, performs lead trumpet with the Doug Butchy Big Band and the Mercer County Summer Jazz Ensemble, and performs regularly with the Youngstown Fine Arts Brass Quintet and the Pierce Opera House Pit Orchestra.
