Westminster College Celebrity Series Announces 2018-19 Season

Westminster College Celebrity Series is back with another season full of exhilarating performances. From celebrity tributes to magical productions, the 2018-19 season has something in store for the entire family. 

“Each performance on 2018-19 Celebrity Series line up promises you an extraordinary experience that you won’t want to miss,” says director of Celebrity Series Connie McGinnis. “These shows are coming to you in many cases direct from New York or are part of national tours playing at the finest performing arts halls across the country and in the world.”

Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. in the William W. Orr Auditorium unless otherwise indicated.

The season opens with Lonesome Traveler: The Concert on Saturday, September 15, 2018, sponsored by Sharon Regional Medical Center. Based on the acclaimed off-Broadway musical, the concert version tells the story of American folk from Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan and beyond—plus a special tribute to Leonard Cohen. 

On Thursday, October 11, 2018, “America’s Got Talent” season 8 finalist Catapult will bring their magic to Orr Auditorium. Featuring incredible dancers who work behind a screen to create shadow silhouettes of shapes from the world around us, the show is packed with hundreds of shape transformations, humor, emotion and engaging stories. On Saturday, November 17, 2018, Celebrity welcomes The Midtown Men, sponsored by Huntington. Comprised of four stars from the original Broadway cast of Jersey Boys, Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Tony Award nominee J. Robert Spencer star in this one-of-a-kind concert experience celebrating the music that defined the ‘60s.

On Wednesday, December 12, 2018 celebrate Christmas with the beautiful melodies of platinum recording artist Jackie Evancho. Jackie first dazzled American television audiences at the age of 10, gaining global recognition with her stunning debut on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” She will perform a collection of heart-warming, beloved classic Christmas and popular holiday songs that have a fresh new take with her signature angelic voice. Christmas with Jackie Evancho is sponsored by Giant Eagle

On Saturday, April 27, 2019 come watch as international concert and recording artist Maxine Linehan takes her audience on a musical journey in a special tribute to Petula Clark entitled “What Would Petula Do.” Maxine’s tribute traces Clark’s extraordinary career from her early, popular recordings in the 1940s, through her mega-stardom in the 1960s, to her award-winning performances in film and on Broadway right up to the 1990s. This performance is sponsored by UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon.

Celebrity Series for Kids presents Diary of a Worm, a Spider & a Fly on Monday, May 20, 2019. Based on the books Diary of a WormDiary of a Spider, and Diary of a Fly written by New York Times bestselling author Doreen Cronin, the play is a sweet story about acceptance, tolerance and understanding of differences with additional messages about being kind to our planet and caring for all its creatures great and small. There will be a school showing at 10:30 a.m. and a public showing at 6:30 p.m. This show is sponsored by Springfield Restaurant Group, Dr. Rich (Dr. Richard Ribarevski), New Wilmington Family Medicine Assoc. (Dr. Anthony Uberti), and Arts & Education at the Hoyt.
