Eight Students Present Research at National Conference on Undergraduate Research

Eight Westminster students attended and presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) at the University of Central Oklahoma on April 4-7. All students received funding from the Drinko Center for Undergraduate Research to attend the conference.

Among those who presented were senior neuroscience major Morgan Widina, senior psychology major Emily Connell, senior psychology major Addison Dieterich, senior neuroscience major Bridget Herlihy, senior psychology major Kaitlyn Krug, senior history major Emma Lawson, senior psychology major Katherine Shaw and senior biology major Madison Gallucci.

NCUR aims to promote undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study across all types of institutions. Therefore, students presented their academic research and attended different presentations at the conference to learn more about subjects pertaining to their fields of study.

“I was able to observe research presentations that were relevant to the field I want to go into,” Lawson said. “This helped me learn a lot more about what I want to do. I also met several other people who are interested in my field and developed a new network of contacts.”

Associate Professor of Psychology Sherri Pataki also attended the conference and served as the research mentor to many of the students who presented. By pairing with professors and the Drinko Center, students equipped themselves to carry out meaningful research and to present in a setting that allowed them to expand their academic perspectives.

“It was inspiring to be surrounded by so many students who had worked so hard on their research,” Shaw said. “I enjoyed seeing research similar to my own interests as well as learning about topics that I typically would not have researched myself.”
