Westminster College will hold its annual Undergraduate Research and Arts Celebration (URAC) on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 beginning at 9 a.m. URAC is a day-long event showcasing the collaborative work between Westminster faculty and students. Often interdisciplinary in nature, presentations take the form of posters, oral presentations, video productions, art studio pieces, poetry readings, live musical performances and more. All are encouraged to attend.
This year, approximately 275 Westminster students will share their work—many of whom will present or perform multiple times. URAC is coordinated by Drinko Center for Undergraduate Research co-directors Dr. Pamela Richardson and Dr. Karen Resendes.
“The Drinko Center supports high-impact learning experiences for Westminster students,” added Richardson. “When [students] do an undergraduate research project, write a poem, compose a piece of music, etc., [they] are contributing something new to [their] academic field. We feel that the work supported by the Drinko Center is vitally important to the future success of Westminster students.”
During URAC, classes are suspended for the day as students present their academic pursuits from previous semesters. Special events are woven in the schedule such as tiny house tours, a robotics demonstration and the popular series “The Travel Mug,” which covers all of the travel opportunities available at Westminster.
A new event to look out for is the Poetry Slam sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. The slam takes place at 11:30 a.m. in Berlin Lounge. Free coffee and biscotti will be provided.
