Sophomore business management and social policy major Emma Messett shared her experiences volunteering at the Joshua Casteel Catholic Worker House in Alliance, Ohio at a lecture held at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown. Alongside associate professor of history Dr. Angela Lahr, Messett's presentation emphasized the community spirit that characterizes the Joshua Casteel Catholic Worker House while Lahr spoke about Dorothy Day, co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement.

“As I conversed with the locals who accepted my presence with warmth and curiosity, I was immersed in the communal sense that Day worked so hard to achieve,” said Messett. “This is just one of the many ways the Catholic Worker Houses do not stray away from the true mission and spirit of Dorothy Day."
