Last semester, assistant professor of sociology Dr. Jamie Chapman was named a 2017 Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) Teaching and Learning Workshop Fellow. AKD is an international sociology honor society whose purpose is to promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, as well as other social and intellectual activities that will lead to improvement of the human condition.

As part of her fellowship, she was provided with $500 to be used toward attending a teaching and learning workshop at various regional sociological conferences. Chapman attended a teaching and learning pre-conference workshop at the North Central Sociological Association's Annual Conference this past March held in Indianapolis. The focus of the workshop was balancing work-life with career-life

"The pre-conference teaching and learning workshop offered at NCSA is the first structured event that I have attended in my career that approached the topic of work-life balance directly and energetically,” said Chapman. “I found the retreat to be educational, energizing and optimistic."
