A Westminster Welcome: Meet Dr. René Píco II

We have few new faculty members joining us this year, and it's only right to give them a Westminster Welcome! Over the following weeks, a new faculty member will be spotlighted. Meet Dr. René Píco II, Associate Professor of Science and English Language Learner methods for the School of Education.

Dr. Píco earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, M. Ed. , and B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University.  Dr. Picó worked at Carlow University as a STEM educator in the Education Department of the College of Learning and Innovation.  He also worked at the University of Puerto Rico as an educator in the Teacher Preparation Program at the Mayaguez Campus.  During his tenure at the Central Administration of the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, he served as Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator for the Scope, Sequence & Coordination Project (NSTA) and the Statewide Systemic Initiative (NSF) under Dr. Manuel Gómez.  His specialties and research interests are STEM/STEAM curriculum design; pre-conceptions of pre-servicer teachers about major scientific ideas, in-service teacher professional development; and the integration of instructional technologies and applications in education.

If you could have dinner with someone in the field of study, dead or alive, who would it be and why?  

Dr. Richard Dawkins. He is one of my favorite authors and I would love to chat with him about evolutionary theory.

What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?  

Learn to love, to live, and to let go. In that order or any order.
