The Westminster College Planetarium Fall 2017 season opens September 30, 2017. Details of upcoming shows and ticket reservations are available online at westminster.edu/planetarium or by calling 724-946-STAR (7827). Reservations are required only because seating is limited. All shows are free, open to the public and lasts approximately an hour.
The season opener, “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure,” plays September 30 at 5:30 p.m. Come explore the night sky with Big Bird, Elmo and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, as they take you on a journey of discovery to learn about the Big Dipper, the North Star, the Sun and the Moon. Ideal for ages 3-6.
Later in the evening, “Dawn of the Space Age” shows at 7:00 p.m. Prepare to be immersed and overwhelmed in the most accurate historic reconstruction of Man's first steps into space. From the launch of the first artificial satellite to the magnificent lunar landings and privately operated space flights, come witness the drive, passion and perseverance of the men and women who took part in these death defying endeavors. Recommended for all ages.
There will be outdoor stargazing following the “Dawn of the Space Age,” weather permitting.
The rest of the season includes showings of “Black Holes” and “Ooky Spooky” on Saturday, October 28; and “Let it Snow: Holiday Music Magic” and “Mystery of the Christmas Star” on Saturday, December 2. There will be encore showings of “Let it Snow” and “Mystery of the Christmas Star” on Saturday, December 9. More details are available online.
The planetarium is located in room 116 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center, at the intersection of Maple St. and Westminster Dr. (next to the traffic circle), on the College’s campus in New Wilmington, PA. Parking is available along Westminster Dr. and in the small lot on Maple St. next to the traffic circle.
