As part of the Bleasby Colloquia Series, the Westminster College Department of English and Public Relations will feature Dr. Bethany Hicok, Professor of English and Honors Program Director, at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27, in Mueller Theater located in McKelvey Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Hicok will present her latest book, Elizabeth Bishop’s Brazil, published by the University of Virginia Press in April 2016. Hicok traveled 6,000 miles to and throughout Brazil to gather information and recreate Bishop’s travels.

“Elizabeth Bishop’s Brazil represents the poet’s long, long conversation with the country of Brazil through her poetry and prose writing: its language, culture, people, politics, poverty, wealth, architecture, and its incredible natural beauty,” said Hicok.

Elizabeth Bishop is a Pulitzer prize-winning North American poet who spent nearly two decades in Brazil after she fell in love with a Brazilian aristocrat.

The George Bleasby Colloquia Series features public presentations by the faculty of the department, featured speakers and majors on individual scholarship, interests, and creative projects.
