Westminster College was ranked the 47th best liberal arts college in the nation by Washington Monthly.

“It is far too easy for colleges to garner undeserved reputations for excellence by hiking tuition, burdening students with loans, and spending the money on things that have little to do with educational excellence,” wrote Kevin Carey, Washington Monthly journalist.

Washington Monthly has been working for 11 years to move away from rankings based on wealth, fame, and exclusivity. These new rankings try to provide a more accurate measure of a college’s value by basing rankings on social mobility, research, and service.

“We are pleased to be recognized for our excellent education as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation based upon student satisfaction, retention, and graduation rates,” said Dr. Thomas Stein, vice president for enrollment and marketing. “Students are immersed in their learning through research, practical, and experimental education opportunities that build skills and confidence to be successful in an ever changing world.”
