Westminster College Invites Community to Academic Kick-Off Worship Services

Westminster College will kick off the academic year with a series of worship opportunities. The services are free and open to the public.

The opening communion worship service will be held from 8 – 8:45 a.m., Thurs., Aug. 25 in the Wallace Memorial Chapel. Paula Kubik, college organist, will offer the organ prelude. Anne Bentz, associate professor of music, and William Ambert, adjunct faculty for music, will offer special music.

The message “Celebrate the Light,” will be given by the Rev. James Mohr, college chaplain.

The first vespers service will be held at 7 p.m. Sun., Aug. 28 in Wallace Memorial Chapel. Vespers is a blended-style of worship service that is open to the campus and community.

The weekly vespers service includes preaching offered by Mohr or a guest speaker. Music is offered by one of the Westminster College vocal or bell choirs and the Second Chance Praise Team.

Dr. Darwin Huey, professor of education, will kick off the semester’s first Open Door Reflection at 11:40 a.m., Fri., Sept. 2 in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

Open Door Reflection is held Monday and Friday at 11:40 a.m. throughout the academic year and includes music, prayer, scripture readings, and a reflective moment provided by a Westminster College senior student, faculty or staff member, or guest speaker
